MADE FOR YOUR SHIPMENT

Is this the right fit?

Rail corridors. Pickup, clearance and final delivery.

01

FCL & LCL rail shipments

We arrange dedicated-container and consolidated rail movements on available corridors. We check the cargo, terminal pair and final address before confirming the service and quote.

02

Planned replenishment

We plan rail shipments for recurring stock and commercial orders, comparing the complete delivery scope with ocean or air options when your timing or cargo calls for an alternative.

03

Rail-to-road delivery

We connect rail transport with collection and final road delivery. We coordinate terminal transfers, clearance arrangements, receiving appointments and unloading requirements.

Our rail and road-connected services

We arrange containerised rail freight and the road connections at both ends. For each shipment, we confirm the departure terminal, arrival terminal, transit arrangement and delivery address, then coordinate the complete agreed scope.

What we do for your shipment

  • Arrange supplier pickup and delivery to the nominated rail terminal or consolidation warehouse.
  • Review cargo descriptions, documents, dimensions, weight, packaging and operator acceptance requirements.
  • Book FCL or LCL rail carriage and coordinate export and route-specific transit formalities.
  • Coordinate destination customs, terminal release and consolidation unpacking where required.
  • Arrange the final road connection and follow the shipment through arrival, release and delivery.

Dimensions and weight: measure the handling unit

For LCL, quote the complete pallet or crate, not only the cartons on top. State whether another shipment may be stacked above it, whether it can be turned, and whether special lifting equipment is needed. The consolidation service must confirm its own maximum piece dimensions, piece weight and minimum charge.

For FCL, check inside space, door clearance, loading sequence and payload for the allocated equipment. The dry-container reference table provides named equipment examples; its dimensions are useful for a preliminary fit check, but its payload is not a rail corridor’s permitted load. Terminal, wagon, road and route constraints also matter.

Operator rules can be narrower than a transport mode’s general capabilities. For example, DHL’s Europe–Asia Rail LCL and Rail FCL product descriptions list dangerous goods as excluded. That is a rule for those named products, not a universal statement that rail can never carry dangerous goods.

Operator reference checked 17 October 2026. We confirm the proposed route, departure and cargo eligibility for each booking. Published operator references describe their own products and do not imply a carrier partnership.

A shipment brief that makes a rail comparison possible

Illustrative enquiry: factory pickup in Suzhou to a warehouse near Düsseldorf

Assume six pallets of non-hazardous metal fittings, each 120 × 100 × 150 cm and 250 kg. Total cargo is 10.8 m³ and 1,500 kg. The pallets are non-stackable, the supplier has a forklift, and the receiver requires a delivery appointment. This example illustrates the information we use to confirm a route and prepare a complete quotation.

The first missing fact is the terminal pair. Ask the rail provider to name the origin consolidation point and arrival terminal, then price both road legs. An arrival in one country or terminal does not by itself mean the final warehouse is close or inexpensive to reach.

Compare a rail LCL offer and an ocean LCL offer using the same shipment, collection address, customs responsibilities and destination warehouse. Compare cargo-ready-to-delivery estimates, not a train-running time with an ocean door-to-door time. If the receiver needs only one pallet urgently, add an air or express option for that pallet and include the duplicated handling costs.

See rail route feasibility and how to compare transport modes for the decision record.

Documents, cargo readiness and terminal handovers

  • Commercial file: invoice, packing list, precise product descriptions, quantities, values, materials and product information needed for classification.
  • Transport file: shipper, consignee, clearance contact, package marks, piece dimensions, weights and the agreed terminal or door scope.
  • Route review: identify transit countries and any route-specific cargo or document restrictions before acceptance. Do not assume a product accepted by ocean is accepted by the proposed rail service.
  • Packaging: secure cargo to its handling base, protect edges and vulnerable surfaces, and keep package identification visible after consolidation. Include any special lifting instructions.
  • Cut-offs: record cargo and document deadlines, warehouse receiving arrangements and the event that confirms the goods have actually been accepted.

The packing-list guide helps keep mixed cartons, pallets and invoice quantities traceable through handovers.

Make the whole-route cost visible

Separate collection, consolidation or container loading, origin terminal handling, rail transport, quoted transfer activities, destination terminal or unpacking charges, customs services and final road delivery. Record any minimum charge, storage allowance, waiting charge and equipment return condition. Identify duties and taxes separately.

Ask which milestones will be reported: cargo received, accepted for the planned departure, departed, relevant border or terminal transfer, arrived, released and delivered. The useful customer commitment is a named route and clearly described scope with current conditions—not an unsupported claim that rail is always faster than sea or cheaper than air.

VelFreight quotes the agreed stages transparently and identifies foreseeable additional charges such as non-stackable space, special packing, inspection, storage, terminal operations, truck waiting or address changes. If the cargo, schedule or corridor changes, we explain the revised price and service implications and record the customer’s instructions.

Approved VIP customers may apply to pay after signed receipt, subject to credit review, an agreed credit limit, contract and confirmed payment terms. This does not postpone customs, operator or terminal obligations automatically; the shipment plan states how those charges are paid.

Supplier pickup and rail-ready preparation in China

Pickup is available across all cities in China, including Hangzhou, Shanghai, Ningbo, Shenzhen and Guangzhou. These five locations are examples, not a limit on national pickup coverage. We confirm the specific address, appointment, vehicle, loading/unloading conditions and collection charges for each shipment.

Rail shipments can begin at the supplier’s door. We can receive, count, photograph, sort and label supplier goods before consolidation or container loading. Own-truck support is available for eligible pickup and transfer work, with the actual vehicle and coverage confirmed for the route.

Cargo eligibility and customs responsibilities

Battery cargo is part of our shipment-review service, but this does not establish that a particular rail platform accepts it. Send the battery type, rating, configuration, quantities and applicable SDS/MSDS, test-summary and other required records before choosing the corridor. We confirm the exact goods with the proposed operator and check any transit or destination requirements.

Liquids, powders and other special cargo are also subject to route and carrier review. A shipment accepted by an express carrier, airline or ocean service may not qualify for rail. If the platform declines the goods, we can assess another available mode; no rail booking should rely on omitting a restricted characteristic.

The customer supplies accurate product, value, origin, classification and importer information. We coordinate document checks and the agreed clearance work with the responsible parties; customs and other authorities determine release. See battery and special-cargo requirements and customs coordination.

GOOD QUESTIONS. CLEAR ANSWERS.

Before you ship.

Can rail reach every country and city directly?

We arrange rail shipments on available corridors and connect suitable destinations by road or another agreed mode. Rail does not directly serve every city. We confirm the terminal pair, cargo acceptance and final delivery arrangement for your shipment before booking.

Is rail always faster than sea and cheaper than air?

The transport mode alone cannot answer that. Routes, departure schedules, cargo volume, connecting distances and handling at both ends affect total time and cost. Compare actual quotes for the same shipment and delivery scope.

Will the cargo need transfers along the route?

Some cross-border routes involve transloading, terminal transfers or connections between transport modes. The arrangements depend on the corridor and service. Packaging and securing should suit the expected handling, with responsibilities at each handover agreed in advance.

How should I plan cargo readiness?

Confirm the planned departure, cargo cut-offs and document deadlines first. Allow time for origin handling, transit, destination clearance and final delivery. Rail schedules and border operations may change, so update delivery expectations as actual milestones become clear.
